After graduating from SUNY Purchase in 2019, Leo Frampton and PJ Hunter began experimenting with musical collaborations. The project was mostly electronic to start. In late 2021, fellow Purchase alumni Ben Verde joined the band on drums. The addition of Ben pushed the band towards a more traditional rock and roll sound, while still keeping the framework of those electronic fusion songs with which they built a base. In the live setting, Salamander is known for their hilarious banter, that couples well with their more serious and visceral rock music performances.

In 2023, Salamander released their debut album, [container], to a massive reception. Their breakout single, images, has captured the hearts of people far outside the reach of the Cropsey Community. Currently, the band is on hiatus, as Leo is finishing graduate school in Oregon. PJ is currently releasing music as a member of the project Club Ecology, while Ben plays drums in Wheavy.
